Crazy hectic.

At the basketball banquet, my oldest daughter won a bball scholarship! I’m so proud of how hard she works. The coach shared an inspiring story of how, in my daughter’s sophomore year, the coach told my daughter she would be cut from the team in her junior year. My daughter buckled down and actually got pushed to varsity her junior year. Real fighting spirit.

Meanwhile, I fought with a broken ice-maker, car repairs, and missing pieces to a bed we bought used from FB. 😭

I sent Secrets of Deara off for another round of structural editing. Honestly, between the new job, preparing for our family vacation, continuing with book marketing, and working on Secrets, I was burning out. Getting the book out of my hands for a little while was a healthy move.

That reminds me, I would like someone with a nautical background to make sure I didn't do anything stupid in this story. (I continue to get complaints about the saluting in Guardian of The Palace--lesson learned). Anyone on this list fit the bill? Ideas where I should look? I doubt I'll find a FB group of nautical fantasy readers, but maybe... I haven't looked yet.

Cover for Book 3 is done, except the blurb for the paperback/hardback--haven't written it yet. Let me know what you think of the cover.

Pretty sure I've settled on a title for Book 4: Shepherds of Truth. It's probably not hard for you to guess where they're headed from the title. The conclusion of this series will be wicked hard to write, for a lot of reasons. Guess I can't discuss that.

Beyond the Blood Veil: A Vampire Urban Fantasy Novel

by Nicholas Woode-Smith

They told me journalism was dangerous. But no one ever told me it could make me undead…

Now I’m thrust into a supernatural world, complete with my talking, shapeshifting, Taylor Swift-obsessed cat.

My name is Kali Black, and for the last decade, I’ve been chasing a child trafficking ring no one else believes exists.

Becoming a creature of the night won’t stop me cracking the case. If anything, it’s given me an edge.

But power comes with a price. The Enforcers are watching, and stepping out of line could get me staked.

My sire is still out there, and I need answers. Time is running out. The sun’s rising, the Enforcers are closing in, and the truth is darker than I ever imagined.

If you love sharp wit, dark secrets, and urban fantasy with bite, sink your fangs into Beyond the Blood Veil!

Click here to rejoin family content. Book 4 is well underway now. I took a different approach this time and wrote the first 4 chapters, then the final 5 chapters. The ending has weighed on me for so long that I just had to get it done. So now I just need the silly midling bits and it'll go out the door. :D Frankly, the parts I have written are missing things. Bits that it is hard to tie up in action scenes without distracting. It'll be fun and interesting to work that out. I'm still trying to...

Click here to rejoin family content. Oddly enough, the twice-a-month cadence for newsletters won out over once-a-month, by one vote. So twice a month is borderline. Maybe I'll skip a newsletter once in a while. And more people liked seeing the indie book options than didn't, so I'll keep them, but I set up ways to opt out of both the non-writing updates AND the indie book showcase. So you should be able to click on your choices in an email, set your preferences, and future emails will be...

Click here to rejoin family content. Since release of Secrets of Deara, I'm pausing on Shepherds of Truth while I try to get my marketing game in better order. I'm considering restructuring the emails to be once a month instead of every two weeks. Let me know your thoughts. (I know I have a couple of folks who love the family updates, or at least they have in the past.) How often do you like getting newsletters? Two a month has been good Switch to once a month Just send me info about sales...
